About Carss Bush Park Playground
Carss Bush Park is one of those southern Sydney gems that families in the know rave about. The Kidsafe Award-winning playground (2018) sits right on the waterfront of Kogarah Bay, and the combination of excellent play equipment, two flying foxes, and that sparkling water view makes it feel like a proper destination rather than just a neighbourhood park.
The two flying foxes are the main event for kids — one longer and faster for older children, one shorter and lower for the younger crew. There's also a multi-level climbing structure, a large swing set, slides, and a sand play area. The playground is modern and well-maintained, with quality rubber soft-fall and good colour contrast on equipment. It was designed with input from local families, and it shows in practical touches like the toddler area being slightly separated from the bigger kids' zone.
But the real charm of Carss Bush Park is the setting. After the playground, you can wander down to the tidal pool for a dip, walk along the foreshore path, or set up for a BBQ under the mature fig trees. The park has extensive BBQ and picnic facilities, clean toilets, and a kiosk that operates on weekends and school holidays. The bush section of the park has walking tracks through remnant bushland.
Parking is free in the car park off Carwar Avenue, though it fills up on sunny weekends. Oatley station on the T4 line is about a 15-minute walk through leafy suburban streets. This is the kind of playground that rewards a full-day visit — bring bikes, swimmers, and a picnic rug.
