Hidden away behind Parramatta Park, Domain Creek Playground is a nature-based gem that western Sydney families absolutely love. The playground follows the natural creek line, with equipment woven through the landscape rather than imposed on it. Fallen logs for balancing, rock scrambles, sand play integrated into the creek bed, and the double flying fox are the highlights.

The double flying fox is a big drawcard — two parallel lines mean siblings or friends can race each other, which cuts down on queue arguments considerably. There's also a nest swing, climbing structures using natural timber, and a large sand play area. The nature play elements throughout encourage imaginative, unstructured play — building dams in the creek bed, balancing on logs, hunting for bugs.

Domain Creek sits within the broader Parramatta Park (a World Heritage-listed site), so you can combine a playground visit with exploring the park's extensive walking tracks, the historic Old Government House, or the cycling paths. It's a genuinely lovely setting, shaded by tall eucalyptus, and feels like you've left the city behind.

Facilities are solid — toilets are nearby in Parramatta Park, and there are picnic tables and sheltered areas. The park has several car parks (pay by meter during the week, often free on weekends — check signs). Westmead station on the T1/T5 lines is about a 15-minute walk through the park, or Parramatta station is similar distance from the other side. No on-site cafe, but Parramatta CBD is a short drive for food options. Not fenced, but the setting feels enclosed by vegetation.
