About Oatley Park Playground

Oatley Park Playground charms kids with two things they rarely get anywhere else: a three-storey timber play structure and a real miniature steam train. The timber tower is a beautifully constructed multi-level climbing experience with platforms, slides, rope bridges, and lookouts — all in warm natural timber that feels more like a treehouse than a playground. It's the kind of structure that sparks imaginative play, not just physical activity.

The miniature steam train runs on a track through the park on select Sundays and school holidays, operated by volunteers from the local steam enthusiasts' club. It costs a couple of dollars per ride and kids lose their minds over it. Check the club's schedule before visiting if the train is a priority — it doesn't run every week.

Beyond these headline features, the playground has swings, climbing equipment, a sand area, and nature play elements. The surrounding Oatley Park is a magnificent 45-hectare bushland reserve on a peninsula jutting into the Georges River, with walking trails, swimming spots, and stunning views. The bushwalks are varied from easy to moderate, and in spring the wildflowers are spectacular.

BBQ and picnic facilities are excellent, with covered shelters throughout. Toilets are available. There's a car park (free, but it's a single narrow road in and out, so arrival timing matters on busy days). Oatley station on the T4 line is about a 10-minute walk to the park entrance. No cafe on-site. This is a playground embedded in genuine bushland — not a trimmed suburban park — and that natural setting elevates the whole experience.
