About Blaxland Riverside Park

If you only visit one playground in Sydney, make it Blaxland Riverside Park. This sprawling mega-playground on the banks of the Parramatta River has been a weekend pilgrimage for Sydney families since its opening, and for good reason. The centrepiece is a massive 12-metre treehouse climbing structure with multiple levels of platforms, rope bridges, and lookout points that will keep adventurous kids busy for hours. Then there's the flying fox — one of the best in Sydney — plus a Viking swing that fits the whole family, a giant sand play area, and a water play zone with pumps and channels that runs in the warmer months.

What makes Blaxland genuinely special is the scale. This isn't a quick swing-and-slide stop; families routinely spend three or four hours here. The different play zones are spread across a huge area, so it never feels overcrowded even on busy weekends. There's a dedicated toddler section with lower equipment near the toilets, and the older-kid zones with challenging climbing structures and the flying fox are set slightly apart.

Practical stuff: there are clean toilets and baby change facilities on-site, plenty of covered BBQ areas (BYO supplies), and drinking fountains. The park is not fenced, and it backs onto the river, so keep an eye on little ones near the water's edge. Parking is available but fills up fast on weekends — aim to arrive before 10am or you'll be circling. The nearest cafe is a short drive away at Olympic Park's commercial precinct. Public transport via Olympic Park station on the T7 line is about a 10-minute walk through pleasant parkland. Wheelchair access is limited to the pathways — the play equipment itself is not fully accessible.
