About Bungarribee Park
Bungarribee Park in Western Sydney is a seriously impressive playground that proves you do not need to be near the harbour to find world-class play spaces. This massive regional park was purpose-built on former Defence land and the playground component is genuinely jaw-dropping in scale.
The centrepiece is a towering 14-metre climbing structure that dominates the skyline. This multi-level tower features rope climbing nets, scramble walls, and platforms connected by bridges and tunnels. Getting to the top is an adventure in itself and the views across the parklands from the upper platforms are fantastic. Kids who love climbing will be in absolute heaven here.
The 50-metre flying fox is one of the longest you will find at any Sydney playground and it is brilliantly fast. There is usually a queue on busy days but it moves quickly and the thrill makes the wait worthwhile. Surrounding the main tower are additional climbing structures, spinning equipment, swings including accessible basket swings, and a dedicated area for younger children with smaller-scale equipment that toddlers can manage confidently.
Water play at Bungarribee is excellent. The splash zone features ground-level jets, tipping buckets, and water channels where kids can dam and redirect the flow. Recently added shade structures over the water play area are a welcome improvement, providing UV protection during those scorching Western Sydney summers. The water play operates during warmer months and is absolutely essential on hot days — bring bathers and towels.
The playground is not fenced, which is worth knowing. The park is vast and open, so children can roam quite freely. There are no nearby roads to worry about, but the sheer size means you will want to establish meeting points with older kids and keep younger ones within arm's reach.
Shade has improved significantly with the addition of shade sails over key play areas and the water zone. The broader park has young trees that are growing but have not yet reached full canopy, so bringing your own shade setup like a pop-up gazebo is a smart move, especially in summer. Sunscreen and hats are essential.
One of Bungarribee's greatest strengths is its facilities. There are 26 free electric BBQs with sheltered picnic tables, making this one of the best party and gathering spots in Sydney. Clean toilet blocks are conveniently located near the playground, and there are drinking fountains throughout. The huge car park is free, which is a massive bonus for families driving from across the greater Sydney region.
Getting here by car is the most practical option as the park is not well serviced by public transport. It is located off the M7 motorway near Doonside, making it accessible from across Western Sydney, the Hills District, and beyond. The drive is well worth it.
The playground includes accessible pathways and several inclusive play elements. The basket swings accommodate wheelchairs, and ground-level play panels provide sensory experiences for children of all abilities. The overall layout is flat and easy to navigate with prams or mobility aids.
The best time to visit is weekday mornings during school term when you will have the run of the place. School holidays and sunny weekends attract large crowds, particularly families hosting birthday parties at the BBQ areas. The park is so large though that even on busy days it does not feel cramped.
Beyond the playground, Bungarribee Park has extensive walking and cycling tracks, open grass areas for ball games and kite flying, and a fitness circuit. You could easily spend an entire day here without running out of things to do.
This is a genuine destination playground for Western Sydney families and honestly rivals any playground in the eastern suburbs or inner west. Pack lunch, pack sunscreen, and plan for a big day out — the kids will not want to leave.
