About Lyne Park

Refurbished in 2024 with a flying boat theme that pays homage to Rose Bay's history as Sydney's international flying boat terminal, Lyne Park is the eastern suburbs' most charming playground upgrade. The play equipment is themed around the Catalina flying boats and Short Empire boats that used to take off from this exact bay in the 1930s-50s, with aircraft-shaped climbing structures, control panels with dials and levers, and viewing platforms looking out over the harbour.

The 2024 refurbishment brought everything up to modern standards — new surfaces, fresh equipment, improved shade, and better accessibility. The climbing structures are well-designed with multiple challenge levels, and there are swings, slides, and a small sand play area. The scale is modest (this is an eastern suburbs foreshore park, not a mega-playground), but the quality of design and the location more than compensate.

And what a location. Lyne Park sits right on Rose Bay's foreshore with direct harbour views across to the heads and the North Shore. Seaplanes still take off from Rose Bay (Sydney Seaplanes operates scenic flights), so kids can watch real aircraft on the water while playing on the themed equipment. That connection between the play theme and real-world activity is a beautiful touch.

There's a popular cafe at the park, toilets on-site, and a grassy foreshore perfect for picnics. Parking is limited along the waterfront road — arrive early on weekends. Bus route 324/325 runs along New South Head Road. The ferry wharf at Rose Bay is a short walk. This is a premium-location playground that perfectly blends local history, harbour views, and quality play in a compact package.
