About Pirrama Park
Pirrama Park occupies one of the most spectacular playground locations in Sydney. Sitting right on the harbour's edge in Pyrmont, with views across to the Anzac Bridge and Balmain, this waterfront park combines a quality playground with a setting that makes parents feel like they're on holiday. The contrast between the gleaming harbour and the kids going bananas on the swings is pure Sydney.
The playground itself is well-designed if not enormous. There's a solid climbing structure, swings, a sand pit that's more of a sand play zone, and some balancing elements. The water play area activates in warmer months with jets and sprays built into the ground. It's not the biggest water play in Sydney, but on a hot day with harbour views, it's hard to beat for atmosphere.
What makes Pirrama special is the total package. The park has beautiful grassy areas for picnics, a timber boardwalk along the water's edge, and a playground that's clean and well-maintained by City of Sydney. The Fish Market is a 10-minute walk for the best fish and chips in town, and the local Pyrmont cafes on Harris Street are excellent.
Toilets are available in the park. Street parking on Pirrama Road and surrounding streets is limited to 2 hours and competitive, especially on weekends. The playground is not fenced, and the harbour edge — while fenced with a railing — is still something to be aware of with very young children. The light rail stop at The Star is about an 8-minute walk. This is an inner-city playground at its best: not the biggest, but the location and amenity make it special.
