About St Ives Showground Playground

St Ives Showground has undergone a transformation that makes it one of the upper north shore's best family destinations. The playground is remarkable for its 75% accessibility rating — far above the standard for most public playgrounds. Musical instruments are scattered throughout, including xylophones, drums, and chimes, adding a sensory layer that delights kids of all ages and abilities. You'll hear kids creating impromptu orchestras across the play space.

The play equipment itself is varied and well-thought-out: climbing structures with ramps and stairs (not just ladders), a flying fox, swings including a wheelchair-accessible option, slides of various sizes, and a sensory garden. The surfaces are firm and level, making wheelchair and pram navigation genuinely feasible throughout most of the playground.

The broader showground area is where St Ives really shines for a family day out. There are extensive walking tracks through adjacent Ku-ring-gai Chase bushland, mountain bike trails, a community garden, and a large open oval. The Wildflower Garden next door is stunning in spring. BBQ shelters and picnic areas are plentiful. Modern toilets with accessible facilities are available.

Parking is in the showground car park — free on non-event days, paid during markets and events (the monthly farmers' market is popular). No direct train access — St Ives is a bus-dependent suburb, with routes running along Mona Vale Road. There's a small kiosk that operates during weekend markets. For daily visits, bring your own food. The bushland setting and quality inclusive design make this a standout on the north shore.
