About Strathfield Park

We first visited Strathfield Park on a recommendation from another family and immediately understood why it is considered one of the very best playgrounds in Sydney's inner west. Spanning a massive 1.5 acres across two distinct play zones, this park cleverly houses an adventure playground on the Homebush Road side for thrill-seekers and an all-abilities playground on the Chalmers Road side for younger children and those needing accessible equipment. The dual-playground design is what makes Strathfield Park truly special.

The adventure playground is the headline attraction and our older children headed straight for it. Three monster super slides project off tall climbing towers connected by a rope bridge and elevated sky walkway, delivering genuine speed and excitement that had our kids queuing up for repeat rides within seconds of arriving. A triple-cabled flying fox means three children can race simultaneously — dramatically reducing the frustrating wait times you encounter at single flying foxes elsewhere. There is also a separate 33-metre-long double flying fox for even more aerial fun that older children and teenagers particularly enjoy. Climbing webs, rope bridges, a climbing wall, hammock nets suspended between structures, a rope spider tower with multiple ascent routes, and additional swings round out the adventure side with more than enough variety to keep active children engaged for hours.

The all-abilities playground on the Chalmers Road side is equally impressive and beautifully designed. An appealing red train play structure immediately attracts young imaginations, while an equal-access swing allows wheelchair users and children with mobility differences to swing alongside their friends. A shaded interactive structure features various sensory play panels, while cubby houses with ramps ensure every child can enter and play together. Landscaped mounds provide rolling and climbing opportunities for adventurous toddlers, a maze adds an element of exploration and problem-solving, two merry-go-rounds spin children of different abilities together, and a fire truck completes the extensive imaginative play options available on this side.

The dedicated scooter and bike track is one of our favourite features across any Sydney playground. Complete with road signs, lane markings, roundabouts, and miniature parking bays, this loop circuit teaches road safety while giving children aged 3 to 8 a safe protected space to build confidence on wheels. It is genuinely well designed and our children treated it like a real road network, stopping at signs and carefully indicating their turns to other young riders.

The playground is not fully fenced, though landscaping, hedging, and partial fencing create effective barriers to the adjacent roads in key areas. Sightlines are good from the central grassed area between the two playgrounds, allowing parents supervising multiple children at different play zones to keep visual contact with everyone from a single strategic vantage point.

Facilities include public toilets centrally located between both playgrounds, barbecue facilities with sheltered picnic tables, and adjacent sports fields for ball games and open running. A coffee van operates on weekends during peak season, providing the caffeine fix every parent needs after chasing children between play zones. At one entrance from Homebush Road, a dedicated swing area features a hammock, bird's nest swing, and four additional swings providing yet more options for families arriving from that side.

There is a small car park on site plus street parking on surrounding roads including Homebush Road and Chalmers Road. Strathfield Station on the T2 Inner West and Leppington line is approximately a 10-minute walk, making this one of the more accessible destination playgrounds by public transport for families without a car.

Strathfield Park works for every age from toddlers on the Chalmers Road all-abilities side through to tweens tackling the adventure slides and racing on the triple flying fox. The dual-playground design means families with children of different ages and abilities can all find something genuinely engaging — a rare quality among Sydney playgrounds that makes the trip worthwhile from anywhere in the inner west or beyond.
